Stop signs are a unique, arguably perverse pleasure when observed to the letter.
In Philadelphia stopping—so that the speedometer reads zero—is grounds for an unfriendly honk, which might be translated as, “Go you $&@#!”
To stop completely, in Philadelphia at least, is a new form of resistance.
But maybe it is just a subtle form of road rage. “You follow too close and go too fast. Therefore, I will stop completely at this stop sign. I am punishing you for not being courteous.”
